You will be taught on a dual controlled Ford Ka (with power steering). Structured lessons are given in a polite, patient manner. Nervous? Don't be! You'll be taught according to your abilities - avoiding the possibilities of getting into a situation that you can't handle.
Before being allowed to sit the practical test, you will have to pass the theory and hazard perception tests, which are taken together. The theory test centres are at Ayr and Glasgow. I can give training for these, but preparation is mainly down to self study with the help of training aids. For more detaiils of these see below.
I use Irvine Driving Test Centre. As the test route now goes as far as Troon, pupils outlying areas (i.e. Beith, Kilbirnie) may need to extend the hourly lesson time. Price charged for this will be on a pro rata basis.
Most people fail their practical test because they are not ready. You will not receive any more lessons from me than you need - but you must be able to handle all reasonable driving situations before going up for your test. To quote the DSA information leaflet "If you're not getting it conistently right with your instructor, you're not ready to take your test". However, if you want to save money on your lessons, try getting private practise as well as your professional tuition. You can't beat experience!

There are a few publications that you will need while learning to drive. The DSA's Highway Code is essential. There are a number of DSA publications available, but cheaper (and just as good) alternatives are on the market. You will need a current Theory Test book - make sure it is valid for the current year, and that it contains the full question bank (after January 2012 these questions will not be published). For more fun, invest in a Hazard Perceptiontraining video or DVD!
As an alternative to book reading, there are available some excellent non - DSA CD and DVD Roms for both theory and hazard perception training. They are cheap and easily found at most local supermarkets.
You can get online assistance. For a mock theory test, click here. Hazard perception online is a little harder to get, and you may have to register with a website and pay a small fee; you can see an example by clicking here.
